The most common question asked by people with sensitive skin: How can I prevent irritation?
We can say that people with sensitive skin are the most conscientious. We also know what you're going through... you always have to carefully read the list of ingredients, test the product on small areas of the skin to see if there are any adverse reactions and any mistake can cost you weeks of research.
1. Take care of external factors
We know you already wear sunscreen to protect your skin from UV rays, but it's very important to take care of other factors as well. Heat, cold, wind and sun affect the skin even when protected by SPF.
For example, if it's very cold, try to stay as little exposed as possible because the cold wind can cause burns. To avoid burns, try to keep your skin as covered as possible and use moisturizer before and after outdoor activity. A favorite cream of ours is Rich Moist Soothing Cream from Dear, Klairs , which we always recommend to everyone, for the high level of hydration offered to the skin, but also because of the formula specially designed for all types of sensitive skin.
Otherwise, extremely high temperatures can irritate and dry out the skin. Again, we recommend using a moisturizer and plenty of breaks in the shade.
2. Do not use makeup remover discs
When applying toner, serum, essence or any other product, do not use cotton pads. What you need to do is apply a small amount of product to your face using clean/washed hands. Using this method, you not only prevent the irritation caused by the cotton rubbing against the skin, but you will also apply more product to the face (the pad absorbs the product and is not fully applied).
3. Don't rely on makeup remover wipes
Try not to replace cleansing and washing your skin with cleansing wipes. Even though these can be handy in some cases, the truth is that they don't clean or exfoliate well, leaving chemicals on the skin.
To get results, cleansing wipes contain surfactants and emulsifiers that can dry or irritate the skin. Also, because of the packaging and the product itself, a high level of preservatives is required to ensure a long shelf life. Again, these preservatives can trigger allergic reactions or irritation.
Fortunately, makeup remover wipes are being used less and less, being replaced by cleaning products. Cleansing foams and powders are very good alternatives, being easy to apply, rinse off and much healthier for the skin.
We recommend you try Benton's Deep Green Tea Cleansing Foam which, although gentle on sensitive skin, deeply cleanses pores and removes excess sebum.
4. Do not use microdermabrasion cleaning methods
Even if you want to treat yourself to a day at the spa, stay away from harsh forms of dermabrasion (including microdermabrasion) and harsh chemical exfoliators.
The purpose of these treatments is to break down and resurface the skin's natural barrier, but your skin is sensitive because the barrier is already very fragile. This skin type requires very gentle exfoliators with ingredients you know won't harm you.
5. Take care of your body
You may already have a strict schedule for your grooming routine, but that's not enough. Sometimes life gets out of control and stress, anxiety, poor diet and LACK OF SLEEP take a toll on your physical health, which includes your skin.
When you are stressed, tired and malnourished, the skin reacts much more aggressively. Try to have a balanced lifestyle, take breaks as often as necessary, eat healthy and surround yourself with people who make you happy.
